A coursework is a term which includes different writing activities like an essay, reports, research and assignment writing. It is a task performed by trainees and students to learn a particular topic or understand a task. Coursework writing is usually longer than any other type of academic writing. It is given by school and university teachers with an aim to increase student’s knowledge and enhance their writing skills. For completing, the coursework on time students needs to learn how to organize the work and how to draw the coursework outline. It might be specified by professors or teachers under self-taught courses. It includes various activities namely research work, experimentation, practice and different type of writings. At the middle school, high school, college and university level grades given for the coursework are always combined with the final score got at the end of the term or semester. Students prefer coursework over exam as in it they get more time to complete their task as compared to the time they get in the exam. Also in coursework, they are allowed to use various sources such as other textbooks, the internet, encyclopaedia, notes, CDs, etc. In British secondary schools GCSE coursework is a qualification exam which is though optional but yet is the most common way to acquire a certificate. Completing coursework is not as easy as it sounds. Students make the biggest mistake by doubting or not believing in their skills. Another mistake that students make is they start reading early in order to finish the work quickly but fails to absorb much information i.e. they forget what they read earlier by the time they start their work. Whereas, when they start late they have to rush through the task. It is all because of poor planning and lack of time management. Lack of resources, poor research skills, and distracted environment, etc. are few other problems that make completing a coursework challenging.
